Youtube und Flash unter Ubuntu Jaunty

Flash ist so ne Sache: Es ist eigentlich zum kotzen, weil es Barrierefreiheit ad absurdum führt. Es ist für Suchmaschinen schlecht zu indizieren und ohne DSL ist Flash absolut gar nicht genießbar. Dennoch hat Flash sich als Defacto-Standard für Videostreaming etabliert. Und dank guter Containerformate und noch besserer Videokompression kann man mittlerweile über ne simple DSL1000er-Leitung sogar HD-Inhalte empfangen. Die CPU sollte halt schnell genug sein, um das Video zu dekomprimieren.

Und genau DA hatte ich mit Ubuntu 9.04 "Jaunty Jackalope" echte Probleme. Irgendwie hat Youtube oder jeder andere Flashdienstleister bei mir unter Linux gestreikt. Entweder das Video hat geruckelt wie die Seuche oder aber die gesamte CPU-Leistung wurde für den Browser verschwendet - in JEDEM Fall war die Wiedergabe des Videos äußerst nervig.

Die Lösung war, das sich mehrere Flash-Plugins (inklusive des Originals von Adobe) darum stritten, wer das Video nun wiedergeben darf. Da leider nur das Original von Adobe wirklich 100% Flash ist, mussten die anderen Dinger erstmal weg.

Ich war rabiat und brutal, hab also echt alles entfernt.

Ich bin also ins Terminal gegangen und hab folgendes ausgeführt:

sudo apt-get remove mozilla-plugin-gnash
sudo apt-get remove adobe-flashplugin
sudo apt-get remove flashplugin-nonfree
sudo apt-get remove swfdec-mozilla

Danach hab ich den kommerziellen Flashplayer installiert:

sudo apt-get install flashplugin-nonfree

Es hat allerdings immer noch geruckelt. Also hab ich mir gedacht, dass das evtl. was mit meinen Grafikkarteneinstellungen zu tun hat. Um diese Einstellungen zu ändern, muss man den X-Server konfigurieren: Man öffnet also die Datei xorg.conf

gksudo gedit /etc/X11/xorg.conf

Falls die folgenden Einträge nicht vorhanden sind, trägt man folgende Sachen noch neu ein:

Section "DRI"
    Mode 0666
EndSection

Section "Extensions"
    Option "Composite" "Enable"
EndSection

Anschliessend die Datei speichern und den Rechner neu starten. Bei mir hat's funktioniert.

 

To be honest, Flash simply sucks. Sites are not accessible for people with deseases anymore. Searchengines fail to spider those contents and without cable-connection the contents are loaded slowly. Besides those downgrades flash developed to be a standard for videostreaming. As we have nice codecs with high compression available it's even possible to transfer HD-content through slow dsl1000-connections. If the CPU is fast enough to decode the stuff, we can watch high-quality contents.

With Ubuntu 9.04 "Jaunty Jackalope" I had serious problems watching any flash-application. The videos were stuttering, the CPU was at 100% and videos sucked big time.

The problem in my case was, I had several flash-players installed. All of them wanted to play the video, all of them failed together. I think, the only true flash is the one from adobe itself, so I removed all players at once.

To remove all flash-players, open the terminal and deinstall everything.

sudo apt-get remove mozilla-plugin-gnash
sudo apt-get remove adobe-flashplugin
sudo apt-get remove flashplugin-nonfree
sudo apt-get remove swfdec-mozilla

Reinstall the commercial flashplayer by adobe.

sudo apt-get install flashplugin-nonfree

That works in most cases but not in mine. Although I restarted the video was stuttering like hell. The cpu-usage was down, though...

Open the xorg.conf

gksudo gedit /etc/X11/xorg.conf

If you are missing the following lines, try to add them. Maybe you create a backup of the xorg.conf first.

Section "DRI"
    Mode 0666
EndSection

Section "Extensions"
    Option "Composite" "Enable"
EndSection

After rebooting, my youtube-clips were played like a charm :)
